I don't know if I can pick just one and lordy I'd certainly want all of them to be senior players on the team.

I'll have to put a lot more thought into it but my first reaction would be... I think that co-captains would be better.

Maximus Decimus Meridius - co-captain - adept at leading - at times perhaps a touch autocratic but can be inspiring - he may be a bit too quiet off the field

"Lucky" Jack Aubrey - co-captain - adept at leading - at times perhaps a touch autocratic but can be inspiring - he may be a bit too loud off the field

I think that the two of them combined would make a good team as co-captains with each of them balancing out the differences in their personalities. They would have to be careful that they don't come across as too bossy and have to remind themselves that the coach has the final word but they would inspire the other players on the field and give differing options to those players who would need to discuss problems on and off the field. I think they are both capable of being a liaison between the other players and the coach and management which as a skill is just as important as being inspirational for a team captain.

However...I have to add that they could end up being an insecure coach's nightmare. JT would have to stay on his toes.

Terence Thorne - I think Terry is probably capable but I don't know that he would want the position on a full time basis. He loves to be congenial with his mates and would certainly be a valuable team member. I just don't know how inspirational he would be to a large group. Leading by example is only a part of being a team captain.

John Biebe - I love him to death and so do his teammates and fans but he's just too quiet on a day to day basis. He's dependable and will always give his best but he's too retiring. I think that he would rather just concentrate on his own skills and be supportive of his teammates.

James J Braddock - Jimmy is much like John. As a senior player he would be invaluable just as John would be. A good example for the younger players to look up to. But asking Jimmy to give a motivational peptalk to the guys would be torture for him. Even though he'd be willing to help he'd give himself ulcers if it was required for him to point out to another player that he could be doing something in a better or more productive way.
