Luke has not played since fracturing his hand in round three and former Kiwis international Vagana was reportedly close to retirement when stepping down from the side after round one with a hamstring injury. But aside from adding significant strikepower to their lineup, coach Jason Taylor has made more changes with Eddie Paea promoted to start at halfback alongside five-eighth Ben Rogers. Taylor has dumped Jeremy Smith just two weeks after pledging to show more confidence in the young halfback and now says he will show faith in Paea. It is a return to the Rabbitohs' scrumbase combination which took to the field in the round two 12-25 loss to the Bulldogs and is the sixth time in seven rounds Taylor has altered his halves. "There's no doubt Eddie's still learning but we think it's time to put him in there," Taylor said. "Let's look towards the future, let's give him a shot at showing us what he can do in the number seven jersey for an extended period. "It's been a bit hard for him so far being in and out of first grade but it's time we gave him a solid chance and while he's playing first grade there's no doubt we'll get a much better chance to not only see what he can do but also work on the things that he needs to improve. "There's a few of those but we're confident that he's going to do a good job for us and as I say we think he's the future of our club

The form of both teams already points to an avalanche of tries for the home side and with Darren Lockyer returning to try to claim his Test jersey well, it looks a long, long ANZAC night for the Bunnies. The Broncos sit in second place on the NRL ladder despite falling to the Titans last weekend while the Rabbitohs are entrenched in last place with a big fat duck's egg of points. And sadly they haven't looked like breaking the drought, even though many backed them to do so over the past fortnight against the Sharks and Wests Tigers. But the NRL is famous for throwing up an upset and with the bye coming in round eight, and with Karmichael Hunt and Corey Parker out, maybe the Broncos will lose some focus and open the door for the cardinal and myrtle. Hunt is out with a knee injury, which moves Darius Boyd to fullback and brings Reece Robinson into the team on the wing. Parker is also out with knee trouble but Lockyer returns at five-eighth, shifting David Stagg to the second row, Sam Thaiday to prop and Joel Clinton to the bench. Joel Moon has been added to a five-man bench. South Sydney are boosted by the return of hooker Issac Luke, one player who can cause inroads in the Broncos' defence, which pushes in-form George Ndaira to the bench. Further changes include the return of veteran centre Nigel Vagana and the axing of half Jeremy Smith. Winger Sam Huihahua makes way for Vagana, with Germaine Paulson shifting from centre to wing, while Eddie Paea starts at halfback. Prop Ben Lowe also makes way for brother Jaiman. Watch out Broncos The South Sydney pack might have been in poor form but the likes of Roy Asotasi, David Kidwell and Manase Manuokafoa have still helped build a dominant base in defence. The Bunnies have reeled off 151 dominant tackles this season, to be second in the NRL compared to the Broncos' 68 (15th). Plus, they have been stung by the recent criticism of legend John Sattler who called them the worst Souths' side in a long time and questioned if they'll win any games at all. If the Rabbitohs' "pigs" lift and dominate the Broncos' forwards then at least Luke and Paea will have chances to create points. The Broncos have, after all, missed considerably more tackles (220 v 191) than Souths this year, so anything is possible. Watch out Rabbitohs Darren Lockyer returns knowing full well his Test spot is being eyed off by Greg Bird and Braith Anasta. With just this game before the side is picked the South Sydney boys can expect a man on a mission. In his limited game time this season Lockyer has produced three line-break assists, a try assist and a try of his own but you get the feeling he's still looking for that one break-out performance. If Wayne Bennett starts him from the bench, like he has earlier this season, it will only drive Lockyer more to produce when he takes the field. Where it will be won Brisbane need only stick to their impressive game plans that have predominantly worked thus far this season to come out on top. But if Souths are to cause a boilover they'll need to be much more effective in attack. The Rabbitohs have been pedestrian at best and have barely raised a query let alone a question of any opposition defence this season. They have posted just 76 points this year (12.7 a match) to be clearly the NRL's least effective attacking unit. Luke and Paea need to go back to the carefree days of their junior football and reproduce the magic seen on the dusty suburban Sydney grounds only this will have a chance of stirring victory over a structured Broncos' unit. No-one expects them to win so why not throw caution to the wind and have some fun with ball in hand? The History: Played 20; Broncos 16, Rabbitohs 3, drawn 1. Souths have only won once at Suncorp Stadium against Brisbane and that was way back in 1989! While the Rabbits have managed a win and a draw from the past five clashes, the history is firmly with the Broncos in this clash. Conclusion: As much as people love an upset, or a "Cinderella Story" if you will you just can't see the Bunnies notching up win number one here. Kudos to them if they get up but if you tip South Sydney here you are either a diehard fan or you're already playing for the "wooden spoon" in your tipping comp. Conversion attempt by Michael Ennis unsuccessful. Brisbane Broncos 4-0 9 min: The Rabbitohs mount some pressure and force back-to-back sets... can they do it? 10 min: The situation is diffused for Brisbane with the Bunnies just playing some shocking footy to hand the ball back over. If the end of that set is any indication we could be in for a long night. 12 min: A rugby league miracle has occured - Brisbane won the scrum against the feed! 15 min: PENALTY GOAL Brisbane Broncos Ennis converts a penalty opportunity to increase the Broncos margin to six. Brisbane Broncos 10-0 25 min: Souths hand over possession on the Broncos line but Brisbane hand it back with Hodges pushed into touch from the ensuing scrum play. Souths heavy on the attack now - can they stem the tide? 29 min: TRY South Sydney Rabbitohs Souths forge something in stone with Fa'alogo bursting through a number of defenders to score. Six the margin now. Conversion attempt by Issac Luke successful. Brisbane Broncos 10-6 31 min: From the return set after the try, Issac Luke kicks the ball out on the full - and Brisbane will get some precious field position in the final ten before halftime. 36 min: TRY Brisbane Broncos Brisbane score a good try out wide through flu-stricken Justin Hodges, who now looks absolutely stuffed following the try. Conversion attempt by Michael Ennis unsuccessful. Brisbane Broncos 14-6 39 min: INJURY - Brisbane Broncos Hodges is down now, Brisbane not looking good on the injury front. Looks to be a shoulder or arm injury to compound his sickness. He is staying on the field though for the final play of the half. HALFTIME Brisbane Broncos 14 South Sydney Rabbitohs 6 Brisbane convincing leaders so far, for every one good deed Souths perform it seems there's three that send them backward. Brisbane are taking advantage from there, and it's only Ennis' poor kicking tonight that hasn't made this scoreline look ugly. For Brisbane Hodges looks like he should be rested in bed but he seems insistent on staying on the field, while Michaels has suffered an injury to the cruciate ligament and early prognosis suggest a season-ender for him. It's all uphill for Souths but should Brisbane suffer just one more injury in the second half, anything could happen. Stay tuned! 40 min: Second half commences 44 min: Eddie Paea makes a clean break for Brisbane but his offload to Nathan Merritt doesn't reap rewards when the flying winger makes a poor read and throws an impossible pass. Brisbane doing it easy in attack. 50 min: TRY Brisbane Broncos Another good try, giving Denan Kemp an easy path to the line for a double. Brisbane looking to cruise now. Conversion attempt by Michael Ennis successful. Brisbane Broncos 20-6 54 min: TRY Brisbane Broncos Ennis crashes over for one of his own and now it looks as if the floodgates are beginning to open. Another dark night for the red and greens. Conversion attempt by Michael Ennis successful. Brisbane Broncos 26-6 64 min: TRY South Sydney Rabbitohs South Sydney finally hit back...it would appear too little too late against the Broncos although the more possession Souths get the more dangerous they look. Merritt the tryscorer. Conversion attempt by George Ndaira successful. Brisbane Broncos 26-12 72 min: TRY South Sydney Rabbitohs Souths finally making a game of it now with Merritt scoring under the posts - just seems to be not enough time left to rectify this for Souths. Margin drops to eight points with about 7 to go. Conversion attempt by Eddie Paea successful. Brisbane Broncos 26-18 77 min: Brisbane looking to wind down the clock but Souths really giving it their all. The question must be asked - where the spirit was in the Bunnies for the first 60 minutes? 80 min: TRY Brisbane Broncos Fulltime strikes as Moon gets a double and wraps up proceedings here.
